Erotic literature comprises fictional and factual stories and accounts of human sexual relationships which have the power to or are intended to arouse the reader sexually. A common feature of the genre is sexual fantasies on such themes as prostitutionorgieshomosexualitysadomasochismand many other taboo subjects and fetisheswhich may or may not be expressed in explicit language. Despite cultural taboos on such material, circulation of erotic literature was not seen as a major problem before the invention of printing, as the costs of producing individual manuscripts limited distribution to a very small group of readers.
In the festival's programme you can also find "Love Express. The Strange Case of Walerian Borowczyk", the story of the acclaimed artist and his connections with the erotic film market. This mysterious filmmaker was a leading director in Poland before the war and later on a powerful member of Italian and Hollywood film industry.
It is one of the earliest examples of an epistolary novelfull of erotic imagery. The first printed edition was published by Ulrich Zell in Cologne between and The novel is set in SienaItaly and centres around the love story of Lucretia, a married woman, and Euryalus, one of the men waiting on the Duke of Austria.
